SLJ

Last week PBS had their Summer Learning Journey celebration assembly. Mrs Grant came and presented our certificates and prizes. My certificate is for participation. The SLJ was a fun activity to do because it had some really creative challenges to do at school or at home. My favourite activity was Inquiry because we learn about great stuff and create DLO to tell a story about them.

Kiwiana Mural Art

For todays Activity I had made an mural about our whenua and what are the surroundings that are special to us. The surroundings I put is Maungarei Mountain, Palm trees, Dunkirk Park, wakas that surpassed our awa, and a cross showing that I also worship.

Dame Naida Glavish

We read about Dame Naida Glavish, a wahine toia who choice to greet callers with “Kia Ora” instead of “Hello.” Her one action led to a massive change in New Zealand’s cultural identity.

We think Dame Naida Glavish was an agent of change because she tells us about the maoris unity and why we could use everything as an example.

The owl that became a story.

the glimmering sun there was once an owl who always wanted to learn on how to fly, every time he asked for permission from his mother she always denies it, the reason why she denied it because the entire flock of owls are nocturnal ( Meaning that they are not use to the mornings Every single morning in )  As the sun finally hid behind the mountains and the shadows grew long, the moon climbed into the sky. This was the signal for the night to begin! The parliament of owls woke up, and their hoots echoed through the trees as they shared the secrets of the dark.

While it was still pitch black ! The parliament of owls woke up and hooted through the trees. But as I tried to fly, the wind became too strong for my small wings. I lost the other owls  in the dark and had to land on a branch to catch my breath.I gave my loudest owl call, hoping my mother would find me. I was so far from our home tree that I was scared she couldn’t hear me. It was pitch black, and I knew my mother would be growing worried that I was lost in the shadows.

When it was morning and my energy was great , I used all my power source to fly in the direction I was coming from when I left. The first hour had passed and half of my energy was drained. I was really exhausted and wanted to sit in the shade of a nearby tree, but my gut was telling me to keep on going and don’t stop. When it was night I heard a callout saying my name. I thought I was hallucinating but when I lookedI looked in the distance, i could see my mother standing on a tree branch looking shocked that i made it ou there alive.

It is important to listen and pay attention to what you dont know where your going or up tos
