Dame Naida Glavish

We read about Dame Naida Glavish, a wahine toia who choice to greet callers with “Kia Ora” instead of “Hello.” Her one action led to a massive change in New Zealand’s cultural identity.

We think Dame Naida Glavish was an agent of change because she tells us about the maoris unity and why we could use everything as an example.

The owl that became a story.

Every single morning in the glimmering sun there was once an owl who always wanted to learn on how to fly, every time he asked for permission from his mother she always denies it, the reason why she denied it because the entire flock of owls are nocturnal ( Meaning that they are not use to the mornings )

As the sun finally hid behind the mountains and the shadows grew long, the moon climbed into the sky. This was the signal for the night to begin! The parliament of owls woke up, and their hoots echoed through the trees as they shared the secrets of the dark

While it was still pitch black ! The parliament of owls woke up and hooted through the trees. But as I tried to fly, the wind became too strong for my small wings. I lost the other owls  in the dark and had to land on a branch to catch my breath.

I gave my loudest owl call, hoping my mother would find me. I was so far from our home tree that I was scared she couldn’t hear me. It was pitch black, and I knew my mother would be growing worried that I was lost in the shadows.

When it was morning and my energy was great , I used all my power source to fly in the direction I was coming from when I left.

The first hour had passed and half of my energy was drained. I was really exhausted and wanted to sit in the shade of a nearby tree, but my gut was telling me to keep on going and don’t stop. When it was night I heard a callout saying my name. I thought I was hallucinating but when I lookedI looked in the distance, i could see my mother standing on a tree branch looking shocked that i made it ou there alive.

It is important to listen and pay attention to what you dont know where your going or up tos.

Johnny Pohe.

LI: To make an informed opinion

Our task was to create a DLO that shows both perspectives of this event. Our group considered whether or not the risks that Johnny Pohe took were very dangerous.

Something we found interesting was that Johnny Pohe was the first Maori to become an official pilot because he wanted to serve his country so he could protect the mana that lies beyond his culture

Social Influence

LI:To evaluate peer pressure, digital interactions and social influences

We unpacked how in a world of followers and influencers, how we can stay the ‘Navigator’ of our own lives.

We enjoyed this because we get to work into pairs and sharing our ideas to make our learning at our year level.

Annex AI.

For todays activity we are reading the book ‘Diary of Anne Frank’. Mrs Anderson created a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what life would have been like in the annex, what we felt and why we felt that way.

I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me to improve my paragraph and give more ideas on what we are learning about.

Tech 26

Today went back to tech and did some more techy stuff. the group I was in was Te Reo, My teachers name was Matua Adrian. We all learned about the Marae and what does those carvings mean. So Matua Adrian took us to the Marae and showed us around and told the story behind every story about those pictures on the wall. When we finished talking about the carvings we played a game called Ho He Ha, its a Maori game that when you get picked the 2 people around you has to yell He before the person passed it around.
